Inshore
Spring is in full swing. Glass minnows will be the bait to match the
hatch this month. Artificial baits like DOA Cal Shad Tails, jerk bait and
terror eyes will work well around the mangroves docks and bridges. Launching
your kayak inside the John D. MacArthur Beach State Park should produce trout
and snook along the mangroves when the tide is moving.
Offshore
April will start to bring bigger pushes of blackfin tuna to
the area. Vertical jigging 230-350 feet
will produce on 4-8lbers on average. Don’t overlook trolling plugs like Yozuri
Crystal Minnows to pick up a few tuna as well. One place great place to start to look for
tuna is Boynton Inlet. This launch allows you to reach the fishing grounds
within a mile of shore. Sailfish, mahi,
kings and wahoo are all on the menu this time of year. Working the normal
goggle eyes and blue runners will give you the best shot at a hook up. Finally don’t forget about the cobia. Bouncing
the reef will put you in line for one of these tasty fish.
