Fishing report 5.8.15

Inshore

The bait is here!  Lots and lots of glass minnows and mullet have showed up. Fishing around mangroves and bridges will help you find the bait. Snook can be found in good numbers around docks and bridges at night. Try using smaller baits like DOA Tiny Terror Eyz. On the flats trout and redfish have been good. The trout are holding in the deeper grass flats in 3-4’ of water. Redfish are hanging tight to mangroves. DOA Cal shad tails and jerk baits will work well for either species.

Offshore                     

Offshore fishing is going off right now. The kingfish have finally showed up in good numbers in the Boynton Beach area and it’s only going to get better. Sailfish, dolphin and large blackfin tuna are also being caught on a variety of baits.  If you can find goggle eyes they will be your best option, but as always don’t overlook a feisty blue runner. The smaller blackfin are also around but spread out. Vertical jigging for them anywhere from 275-350’ can put you on some.

Fishing Report 4.10.15

Inshore

The spring bait run of mullet and glass minnows is starting to look good.  The pompano fishing is pretty good on the beach and so so inside the river. Live shrimp, clams and goofy jigs are a good way to put some of these tasty treats on the dinner table. The flats near the inlets will start to produce snook as they make their way towards the inlets for the summer spawn. Right now using a DOA shad tail, Zara spooks or Mirrolure Mirrodine are great baits to grab a snook. Baits resembling current bait fish like glass minnows, pilchards and mullet will work best. Sharks are also cursing the flats looking for an easy meal.

Offshore

Dolphin have been a good bet offshore with the normal spring run of these guys. Sailfish as well have and will be in good numbers the next month.  As usual using live baits such as goggle eyes and blue runners will be your best bet for Dolphin and sails. Cobia can still be found bouncing the bottom of the reef in 60-80 feet.  Try using a DOA swimming mullet or a 3oz buck tail jig tipped with a frozen sardine.

Fishing Report 3.10.15

Inshore

Trout fishing has been pretty good if you can find the glass minnow schools. The spring mullet run should push more bait into the river this month and really get the bite going. The pompano fishing is getting even better fishing channel edges north of Jupiter. Live shrimp and goofy jigs are the ticket to putting these guys on ice. Water temps have cooled so fishing later in the day will be good around mangrove shore lines and potholes. These areas will hold fish trying to warm up. Right now using a DOA shad tail or Mirrolure Mirrodine are best bets. Snook are starting to show up on flats and surrounding creeks off the flats. Baits resembling current bait fish like glass minnows, pilchards and mullet will work best.

Offshore

Offshore is about to heat up in the next month. Right now the dolphin bite has been good as well as some spotty cobia reports from Palm Beach to Boynton Beach.  As usual using live baits such as goggle eyes and blue runners will be your best bet for Dolphin and a cruising cobia. Bigger concentrations of cobia can be found bouncing the bottom of the reef in 60-80 feet.  Try using a DOA swimming mullet or a 3oz buck tail jig.

Fishing Report 2.8.15

Inshore

Winter weather is here. Windy days and cold fronts can make the fishing difficult at times, but finding a good bite can still be done. The pompano fishing continues to be good fishing channel edges north of Jupiter. Bouncing the bottom with Nylure jigs and goofy jigs will pick up a variety of species. Fishing these same areas you can find plenty of sheepshead when you put live shrimp into the mix. The trout and redfish fishing around Jupiter and Hobe Sound is becoming good. Working mangrove lines and sand flats midday when fish are trying to warm up is your best bet. I like using DOA shrimp or a small paddle tail.  Snook season just open in recent weeks. Continue to fish structures like bridges, seawalls, docks and spillways to put one on your table.

Offshore

Well the winter winds have been consistent. Kayak trips have been limited, but we have still been able to get out with some lucky weather windows. Dolphin and sailfish have been the main targets fishing Jupiter to Boynton Beach.  As usual using live baits such as goggle eyes and blue runners will be your best bet. Slow trolling 140’ – 240’ will likely give you the best opportunity for either of these fish. March will start to bring reports of cobia as well as an even better dolphin bite. Not to mention the spring mullet run will be right around the corner.  Things will be getting hot offshore, don’t miss out.

Fishing Report 1.8.15

Inshore

Pompano fishing once again has been the main target. We had a few good days, but the large schools have not pushed into the river yet. As usual fishing the edges of channels inside the river north of Jupiter Inlet using goofy jigs will produce ladyfish, pompano and jacks.  The trout fishing continues to be good using a DOA shrimp around area flats. The redfish have picked up as well in northern parts of the county. Look for sand potholes in area grass flats to bring a few of these fish to the yak. Finally Snook fishing in the Lantana area has been producing good numbers around the seawalls and docks. Try using a DOA Baitbuster or Cal jerk bait.

Offshore

The offshore fishing is finally picking up again after a dismal 3-4 weeks. Kingfish, mahi and sails have all been hitting the yak in the Boynton Beach area. Goggle eyes have been the best bet, but don’t overlook a good ole dead sardine on a triple j hook rig for dolphin and kingfish. The kings and dolphin have been running small, but there is plenty of action. Focus your attention in 100-130’ of water. In the next month action should continue to get better and hopefully the average size will increase as well.

Fishing Report 12.8.14

Inshore

The pompano are here! We have had some good cold fronts to push these guys in. Fishing the beach along the coast with sand fleas, clams and shrimp will give you a good shot at putting a few in the cooler. Fishing inside the river north of Jupiter Inlet using goofy jigs will produce ladyfish, pompano, jacks ad bluefish. Try working the edges of channels and flats. The pompano will be around for a few months so get on them. The trout fishing has been pretty good using a DOA shrimp around area flats. As always look for potholes on the grass flats and try fishing later in day.

Offshore

The weather has kept us beached the last few weeks, but the reports have been good for people getting out. The mahi fishing is still outstanding, especially in the Jupiter area. Live mullet and google eyes are the bait of choice. The sailfish bite has been mediocre, but in the coming months it will pick up. The nastier the weather is always better for these acrobatic fish. Take on the weather, but be safe!

Fishing Report 11.9.14

Inshore

The first couple of cold front has pushed through the area. With these fronts some new inshore species start to show up. With the next couple fronts start to look for pompano and bluefish to be roaming the flats and channels. Places like Hobe Sound and the mouth of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter are great places to check for activity. For pompano I love using a DOA shrimp in the pot holes on the flats and edges of the channels. For bouncing the bottom of channels a goofy jig or buck tail jig will do the trick for both pompano and bluefish. Just because the weather has become cold don’t think your redfish and trout have shut down. Try fishing a little later in the day so the water has a chance to warm up and target sand holes. These holes will warm up faster than surrounding areas.

Offshore

The mahi fishing has been outstanding up and down the coast. Live mullet and google eyes will intrigue these guys to have a snack. You can run circle hooks or stinger rigs if you don’t want to miss out on the king and possible wahoo bites. These cold fronts will continue to bring in the mahi and sailfish throughout the winter. Brave the weather and you should succeed.
