Fishing Report 9/10/15

Inshore

November brings cooler weather and the opportunity to fish all day without having the sun affect you or the fish. Snook, redfish and trout will all be cooperating this month. I love to use the kayak to get to an area to wade. Wade fishing gives you the opportunity to become even more stealthy by getting away of the noise of the kayak hull. Fishing mangrove lines and potholes using a DOA shrimp is my go to option. The shrimp skips well to reach the roots of the mangroves where fish may be lurking. When working the shrimp over potholes toss the lure beyond the hole and work it out of the grass and into the sand. A few good twitches and a nice thump should come your way.  

Offshore

It’s the time of year when the wind should always be on your mind. Northeast winds will start to push through making the surf a little rough. When you hit the beach and see that the surf is rough, take some time and watch the waves. Most of the time you can see there is a pattern of a few big sets and a calm period. Time it out right and stay dry. Fish will start to move in shallow as the cold fronts push through. Look to target mahi, kings and sails in the 80-120’ area. As always gogs will be your best bet for live bait. If you are on a budget grab your favorite plugs and frozen sardines. We have caught many sailfish, mahi and kings on dead sardines.

Fishing Report 8/10/15

Inshore

Early angler gets the fish. Fishing early or late in the day is still the key through September. The flats and inlets are holding large amounts of glass minnows. Using lures to imitate these baits will be your best bet. Fishing the inlets, docks and bridges will continue to be a great option. Try using a DOA Terror Eyz or jerk bait bounced near the bottom around the inlet. Fishing the shadow lines on the bridges at night with a mullet imitation will work great. On the flats work the mangroves around high tide with a bait that can be skipped up under the overhanging branches. These fish will be up in there deep getting out of the heat of the day.

Offshore

September is the month for us and wahoo. Almost all the wahoo caught in my career have been in September. Concentrate on live baiting large goggle eyes deeper in the water column. The best time of the month will be a few days before and after the full moon. Kingfish will still be around and will most likely be staying in that 20lb range. Don’t forget about sailfish. September is a great month for them. Smaller live baits like goggle eyes and blue runners will work best on a flat line. Finally balckfin tuna will come through in spurts. Look to target them with smaller vertical jigs and trolling feathers.

Fishing Report 7.10.15

Inshore

Fishing will be good if you can get out before the midday heat. The flats are still holding good amounts of bait including mullet and glass minnows. Finding and fishing the outside edges of these schools will produce multiple species. Snook fishing the inlets and bridges near them are a great option. Try using a DOA Terror Eyz bounced near the bottom around the inlet. Fishing the shadow lines on the bridges at night with a mullet imitation will be the best bet.

Offshore

Offshore fishing has slowed for most desirables. Kingfish will still be around, but look for them to be in the under 20lb range.  Sharks and bonita are a sure thing if you are looking to bed a rod. Wahoo will be on most people’s mind this month. Fishing 3 to 4 days before and after the full moon is usually best. I prefer running baits on a downrigger anywhere from 60-80’ below surface for a wahoo bite.

Fishing Report 6.10.15

Inshore

The fishing has really picked up and looks for it to stay that way for a while. The summer months are here so getting out early or late in the day can help with putting fish in the kayak.  Look for snook still pushing towards the inlets for their summer spawn. Macarthur Park and Palm Beach inlet are good places to hang around this month. Large Terror Eyz bounced around the jetties should entice a strike. In the park look to run the mangrove lines with a DOA shrimp or jerk bait. Further north in the Jensen Beach area redfish and large trout have been the talk. Mangrove lines on the high tide and flats with good current and potholes on the outgoing with put you in the right spot to land a few of each.

Offshore

Offshore fishing continues to be good. Kingfish, mahi, sailfish and tuna are the common catches. Look for wahoo bites to pick up around the full moons in the coming months. Running baits on a downrigger anywhere from 60-80’ below surface will help in your quest to land a wahoo.  Bait fishing has picked up and finding a dozen gogs before light should not be a problem. If getting up early is not your thing blue runners will work. Vertical jigging is still producing blackfin tuna anywhere from 230-275’. The bonitas have started to show up in larger numbers so be prepared to have to weed through them to put some sashimi on your plate.

Fishing report 5.8.15

Inshore

The bait is here!  Lots and lots of glass minnows and mullet have showed up. Fishing around mangroves and bridges will help you find the bait. Snook can be found in good numbers around docks and bridges at night. Try using smaller baits like DOA Tiny Terror Eyz. On the flats trout and redfish have been good. The trout are holding in the deeper grass flats in 3-4’ of water. Redfish are hanging tight to mangroves. DOA Cal shad tails and jerk baits will work well for either species.

Offshore                     

Offshore fishing is going off right now. The kingfish have finally showed up in good numbers in the Boynton Beach area and it’s only going to get better. Sailfish, dolphin and large blackfin tuna are also being caught on a variety of baits.  If you can find goggle eyes they will be your best option, but as always don’t overlook a feisty blue runner. The smaller blackfin are also around but spread out. Vertical jigging for them anywhere from 275-350’ can put you on some.

Fishing Report 4.10.15

Inshore

The spring bait run of mullet and glass minnows is starting to look good.  The pompano fishing is pretty good on the beach and so so inside the river. Live shrimp, clams and goofy jigs are a good way to put some of these tasty treats on the dinner table. The flats near the inlets will start to produce snook as they make their way towards the inlets for the summer spawn. Right now using a DOA shad tail, Zara spooks or Mirrolure Mirrodine are great baits to grab a snook. Baits resembling current bait fish like glass minnows, pilchards and mullet will work best. Sharks are also cursing the flats looking for an easy meal.

Offshore

Dolphin have been a good bet offshore with the normal spring run of these guys. Sailfish as well have and will be in good numbers the next month.  As usual using live baits such as goggle eyes and blue runners will be your best bet for Dolphin and sails. Cobia can still be found bouncing the bottom of the reef in 60-80 feet.  Try using a DOA swimming mullet or a 3oz buck tail jig tipped with a frozen sardine.

Fishing Report 3.10.15

Inshore

Trout fishing has been pretty good if you can find the glass minnow schools. The spring mullet run should push more bait into the river this month and really get the bite going. The pompano fishing is getting even better fishing channel edges north of Jupiter. Live shrimp and goofy jigs are the ticket to putting these guys on ice. Water temps have cooled so fishing later in the day will be good around mangrove shore lines and potholes. These areas will hold fish trying to warm up. Right now using a DOA shad tail or Mirrolure Mirrodine are best bets. Snook are starting to show up on flats and surrounding creeks off the flats. Baits resembling current bait fish like glass minnows, pilchards and mullet will work best.

Offshore

Offshore is about to heat up in the next month. Right now the dolphin bite has been good as well as some spotty cobia reports from Palm Beach to Boynton Beach.  As usual using live baits such as goggle eyes and blue runners will be your best bet for Dolphin and a cruising cobia. Bigger concentrations of cobia can be found bouncing the bottom of the reef in 60-80 feet.  Try using a DOA swimming mullet or a 3oz buck tail jig.
