Fishing Report 12/16/13

Inshore

The trout bite has slowed this past few weeks. With the water cooling and water clarity diminishing it's expected. We have still got on a few nicer trout in the 25" range , but the numbers are low. Look to fish the docks and mangroves for some consistent action of redfish, sheepshead and trout. DOA shrimp is always a favorite this time of year. Hopefully we will get a good cold front for a few days to bring in the pompano.

Offshore

Sailfish and dolphin are the targeted species for the next few months. We have had luck off Boynton Beach in 120-150'  for sailfish on live goggle eyes. For dolphin we have pushed out a little further to 300' to get on them. Goggle eyes and mullet work great on a flat line for the dollies.

Fishing Report 11/21/13

Inshore

Trout have been the main target on the flats and drop offs for us these past weeks. Focus on 4-5 foot of water on outgoing tides around Ft. Pierce. The D.O.A.  4" shrimp has worked well. If you are just looking to bend a line there is plenty of lady fish and jacks in the Saint Lucie inlet area. Any lure worked fast will entice a bite from these greedy creatures. Snook fishing around the bridges in Stuart and Fort Pierce has been hit and miss. Try throwing D.O.A. Terror Eyz in the "Big one" size up current around the structure and slowly reel in. Also with the rain today and tomorrow try your local spillways with the same technique. Finally don't forget about the sheepshead bite. Grab some live shrimp and hit the docks and bridge pilings almost anywhere to find some consistent action.

Offshore

The weather has kept us off the beach the last few weeks. Reports of a good dolphin bite off Boynton Beach and Palm Beach has been the norm almost everyday. Live finger mullet works well drifting and slow trolling, but always remember to have a pitch bait like a D.O.A. Terror Eyz or Baitbuster for cruising fish. We are getting into the prime time of year for sailfish. In the coming weeks I will be trying kite fishing from the yak for the first time, so look for a report in the coming weeks.

Fishing Report 11/4/2013

Inshore

We are getting into my favorite time of year to fish the lagoon. With every cold front the chance of pompano gets better and better. Once the water temp drops start to look for these guys on channel edges. I love trowing a D.O.A. shrimp to entice a bite.

These last few weeks we have had a few weak cold fronts which have started to push the trout and snook to deeper water. We found a good amount of trout on drop offs around the river in the 4-6' range. Try pitching a D.O.A. shrimp in Figi Chicken. I like using the 1/2 oz size to give me a little more distance when casting. Your best bet for snook is to hit the bridges as night as well as lighted docks. I like using D.O.A. swimming mullets on the bridges and tossing D.O.A. shrimp or Cal jerk baits under docks. Redfish can be found along the mangroves throughout the day. Also try looking for them on the flats midday when the sun has brought up the water temp.

Offshore

My main target has been the dolphin in the Jupiter area these last few weeks. For us it is a good pedal, but it is worth the reward. Look for weeds and rips in the 100-130' range. Drift or slow troll live bait while scanning the water for fish. I like to have a D.O.A Terror Eyz or Baitbuster ready to pitch to cruising fish. Don't be surprised to pick up a sailfish in the same area, as they have been thick as well. Bottom fishing has been really good in the Jupiter/Plam Beach area. Try bouncing a dead sardine on a standard bottom rig to catch mangrove, yellowtail and mutton.

Fishing Report 10/7/2013

Inshore

Mullet is all I have to say. Find them and you will find the fish. We have been fishing Hobe Sound to Palm Beach Inlet on the beach and inshore. Hitting the beach before sunrise will give you the best shot at snook, tarpon , sharks and spanish mackerel. Try throwing DOA airheads or 5.5" cal jerk baits into the schooling mullet. Of course don't forget to net some mullet to free line on a circle hook. In the river we have been fishing areas that are just stacked with mullet and it has been hard to get a bite on artificial or even a live bait. We switched tactics by using mullet heads on the bottom to pick off the lazy tarpon, snook and even trout.

Offshore

On September 28th I was lucky enough to take the top spot at the Extreme Kayak Fishing Tournament in Pompano Beach. My 34.3lb king fish taken at noon on a live blue runner was big enough to win big pelagic, king fish calcutta and 1st place overall. In the Boynton Beach area the live bait fishing has slowed once again. If your patient and stick it out you can pick off some nice kings in 80-120'. Grab your net and take some mullet out with your runners and goggle eyes as the pelagic's will pick them off just as well. The balckfin bite is still good on the jig, but the size quality has gone down. Most fish are running in the 2-4lb range.

Fishing Report 9/23/13

Inshore

The mullet have been thick off the beach in northern palm beach county. We had a school 3 football fields long one day this week with sharks, tarpon and snook busting through them. Try throwing a DOA Baitbuster or 5.5" cal tail into these schools of mullet. Further north the redfish are starting to school well on the flats. The Fort Pierce area has been best for us to find these fish, as well as trout and some snook. DOA Airheads and shrimp are the go to baits.

Offshore

Blackfin tuna continues to be our main target these past two weeks off Boynton Beach. Jiggging vertical jigs in 200-300' will give you shots at the blackfin as well as skipjack tuna and the occasional wahoo. The weight of your jig will depend on the current and wind. I always perfer to start light (3oz) and work my way up if need be. Pink, blue, silver, green are always the go to colors. Also try trolling a deep diver plug to snag a few of these tuna. We only tried live baiting one day this week, but it paid off with a 35lb kingfish. Blue runners and goggle eyes run on a #5 stinger rig is hard to beat.

Fishing Report 9/9/13

Inshore

The spillways in palm beach county have seen some good snook action these last few weeks. Try using DOA Terror eyz thrown up into the wash and slowly reeled back to entice a bite. Finding a slot fish maybe difficult as a lot of these fish are over 32". Fort pierce is still the place to be to avoid the Okeechobee drainage. We hit the power plant area looking to hook up on fly to the tarpon roaming the area. There were fewer fish than normal and we tried our best, but were unsuccessful. We switched gears and hit the flats and ended up with a bunch of slot sized trout. DOA Shrimp worked in 4 foot of water was the ticket that day.

Offshore

The live bait bite has slowed so we switched it up and went bottom bouncing of Juno Beach and Jupiter. We found a good mangrove, mutton and yellow tail snapper bite from 60-80 foot using dead sardines drifted near the bottom. The black fin tuna bite has intensified. We have been getting 6-8 a drift and losing just as many. Try using a 5oz vertical jig worked in 200-260 foot. Fish have been from 5-15lbs.

See you on the water.

Fishing Report 8/26/13

Inshore

Fort Pierce is still the best bet for some inshore action. South of south bridge has produced some nice trout, sheepshead and mangrove snappers. A popping cork with live shrimp has worked best for the sheepshead and mangroves, while the DOA shrimp has done well for the trout. North bridge flats are producing large trout and lower slot reds on the incoming tide. Try using a DOA Airhead rigged weightless on a 5/0 hook. Jason Broach of Vero Beach actually took down the North Palm Beach Kayak Tournament fishing these fort pierce areas with a 81.25" slam. Also don't forget about the small tarpon still hanging around little and big mud creeks.  The DOA Terror Eyz continues to work best to entice a bite from these guys.

Offshore

We continued to live bait the last few weeks trying to get in on the wahoo bite and it paid off with a nice 25lber caught in 200'. We also has a few days with multiple sailfish caught anywhere from 120'-180' off Boynton Beach. The sails have been hitting blue runners as well as goggle eyes. There has also been an outstanding kingfish bite pretty much from 80' out to 200'. We found the larger kings (25lb+) to be coming from 180'-200'. Try rigging these live baits with 18 inches of 50lb wire tied to a 4/0 live bait hook and attaching a #4 extra strong treble as a stinger.

Good luck out there!

Fishing Report 7/28/13

Fishing Report 7/28/13

Inshore
Trout and Snook have been the main targets as of late. The flats north of Fort Pierce on the incoming tide have still been producing nice trout, snook and a few redfish. Just like the last few weeks the night bite has been best. DOA Airheads and Shad tails are your go to baits. There are still tarpon in Little Mud creek with the bigger ones hanging around Big Mud. Try Using DOA Terror Eyz and Swimming Mullet to entice these guys.

Offshore
These last few weeks we have concentrated on using live bait for the wahoo bite, but have had to battle off the sharks and sailfish. Most of the sailfish bites came on baits set at 40' below surface in 175-220' off Boynton Beach. If your looking to catch yourself a hammerhead, now is the time. We have been getting them while using live bait for wahoo, but any dead bait drifted from 220'-140' will get you on them. The vertical jig bite for blackfin tuna has picked up again. Still a lot of 3-5lbers but a few 20lbers have been in the mix.

Catch em up!

Fishing Report 7/14/13

Fishing Report 7/14/13

Inshore
The fresh water runoff has made it tough lately in the Indian River Lagoon.  South of Fort Pierce has still been producing good size trout. Try throwing DOA Airheads and Shrimp in 2-4' of water. The flats north of Fort Pierce inlet on the incoming tide has been good during the early morning for redfish. Venturing out at night has been even better in this area, just bring the bug spray. DOA Airheads and Shad Tails have worked best as the fish are focused on the mullet in that area. Don't forget about the tarpon in places like Little Mud creek, Bear Point and Big Mud. Get out early to find these fish rolling. Using DOA Terror Eyz and adding extra weight to a DOA shrimp will get you a bite from these guys. The key is to cast ahead of a rolling fish and get that bait to fall at the same rate the fish is diving.

Offshore
The water offshore has been a beautiful blue this last week. Early in the week we have found schools of peanut dolphin every trip out in 180-210' of water. Have a pitch bait ready like a DOA Terror Eyz to bring of few of these guys in the boat. Lately the vertical jig bite for balckfin tuna has slowed, but they are still out there. Try trolling smaller baits in 160-220' for these 3-5lb fish. Again a Terror Eyz is a good option. The king fish bite has been hit and miss for us. Slow trolling live goggle eyes and blue runners are your best bet, but we have also had some good success with deep diving plugs in 110-140'.

The full moon is coming up this weekend, i see some good fish being caught this week. Good luck out there!
